Metrics

It can be difficult for institutions to identify the best virtual world for their purpose, to make progress on virtual-world policy issues, and to identify others with shared interests. Therefore, one of the main objectives of MMI is to help foster the industry's growth by collecting key data on platforms and virtual worlds built on them in order to make such information more easily accessible to the public at large in one single location.

Our goal is to develop metrics that measure the following key metaverse resources in a common and unified way:

  • Inworld Activity
  • Virtual World Economy
  • Virtual World Technology

As the metrics become more developed and standardized by the MMI community, we will establish common denominators for comparing data on as many platforms and virtual worlds as possible.

In the meantime, MMI is compiling a data profile for each platform and virtual world. Examples of basic data sets can be found here:

We welcome any suggestions you may have for improving these data sets. Please comment in our forum.

Each platform and virtual world has its own page in wiki format so that MMI members can update the information quickly and easily. Our goal is to keep the data as current as possible and grow the list as and when new platforms and virtual worlds come on the market. Below are the lists started so far.
