For anyone thinking about doing business in a virtual world it can be difficult to find reliable and meaningful data to make informed decisions.
In an effort to address this problem, an affirmation was made on October 11th, 2007 in San Jose, California, at the Virtual Worlds 2007 Conference and Expo to form the Metaverse Market Index (MMI). The name was later changed to Metanomics Market Index to align with other activies in this space.
As a result, MMI has been established as an independent, not-for-profit organization to respond to the growing desire for a common yardstick that defines and tracks metrics across multiple virtual worlds.
The goal of MMI is to make it possible for those who want to understand the metaverse and use it as a tool to be able to do so in an informed and effective way. MMI will serve to facilitate this process by providing reliable data via a community that is as comprehensive as possible. We believe that the metaverse has the potential to be a breakout industry but without the data, no one can truly know anything, and without the community and the conversation, it's impossible to come to a meaningful consensus.
This wiki is an initial step to form the community to further this discussion as well as create the data necessary to help the metaverse industry as a whole move forward by way of informed investment.

Our first step is to assemble an advisory board of people who are committed to our general goals, and are willing to invest the time or money (or both) to help us achieve them. With an advisory board in place, we can refine our goals and assess the total funding that will be required.
